For the last three editions of MCN, I’ve been helping out with the video documentation of the conference by doing short interviews during coffee breaks.
Volunteering at the conference is not only a great way to offset the travel costs from Brazil but it is also a unique opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people, be they former presidents of the association, anchors of the community, or young up and coming museum professionals who earned one of the disputed scholarships.
What strikes me year after year is that in our short encounters no one is talking about the latest technology fads or shiny products. Instead, everybody keeps talking about the life-long friends and professional contacts they’ve been making at the conference, the sense of community. It is also my biggest takeaway from being part of all this.
In Pittsburgh this year it was a pleasure to be working with Cully Gallagher and his team again. Great camera work, fantastic editing. Congratulations!
Many thanks of course to all interviewees and to Drew Mandinach who lined up everybody
